When the Spanish decided to change the year in Alonissos (December 2015)
It was October 2015 when I received a message from Manuel. He told me that with his wife Beatriz were thinking to change the year in Alonissos and they were searching for accommodation. In the beginning, I thought they were kidding. It was the first time I had an off- season availability request. When everything was fixed, I modified my trip to England in order to be in Alonissos during their stay. We met in Athens and we came together to my island. Manuel and Beatriz are biologists and they were interested in discovering the less exploited island of Sporades with the famous National Marine Park and the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus). I was very excited because I had lots of free time to show them every corner of my island, my favourite areas, secret paths, beaches, churches!! They rented a car and we started exploring the island... The very first thing you fancy doing as soon as you step on an island is to go to a beach, no matter what the season is.
Our beautiful beaches were some of our first stops... Milia, Chrsi Milia, Kokkinokastro, Agios Petros, Agios Dimitrios, Gerakas
Short visit to my grandfather's gardern with Manuel
We had the chance to spare some time to our garden where we grow over 20 different fruits and vegetables. Manuel took some photos and picked oranges.
The Cave in the port of Votsi
We passed the last day of the year under the snow! The port of Votsi is just 15 minutes walk from Patitiri (the center of the island) The big cave these is a must see!
The first dinner of 2016
Of course Manuel and Beatriz were invited to our first dinner of the year. My mother prepared traditional plates and our spanish guests enjoyed the greek cuisine. With a glass of wine we discussed about the christmas habits and customs in Greece and Spain.
2nd of January: an amazing sunny day Megalos Mourtias, Gialia, Vythisma, Tzortzi Gialos
Manuel could not resist to the crystal and calm waters of Alonissos and he did his first swim for 2016 at Tzortzi Gialos beach. These Spanish people really have lots of craziness!!!
2nd of January, Tzortzi Gialos
Agii Anargyri Church
The church of Agii Anargyrii was in our sightseeing list. We walked among the pine trees, we reached the small church and admired magnificent views and the wild beauty of Alonissos.
The path to the old Village of Alonissos (Chora)
We took the path from Patitiri to the old Village of Alonissos. In this route, which takes about half an hour on foot, we had the chance to see the flora and fauna of the island Horses and turtles and hens are just some of the animals we met on our way to the old Village.
Old Village of Alonissos
This is by far the most photogenic area on the island. Traditional colorful houses with tiles, narrow streets and incredible views. Our Spanish guests loved it.
Sunset Marpounta and Patitiri
Thank you Manuel and Beatriz for these special christmas days we spent together :-)
